Highlighting the West Scranton Little League
The West Scranton Little League is an organizational pillar in the West Scranton community. They offer healthy opportunities for exercise, socialization, and character development for kids in our area. Over 700 people in the West Scranton community came together for the Little League's Opening Day to kick off the 2024 season for players 4-14 years old. Every year they host a fundraiser and this year they raised over $4,500 that goes directly back into the community to maintain and improve the little league. They also received 7 Angel in the Outfield donations which directly support youth who want to participate in the Little League but cannot afford registration or equipment. This year there are over 200 registered players in the West Scranton footprint. Their 11 person volunteer board is dedicated to the success of the league and have worked tirelessly to raise funds through sponsorships and grant opportunities. Prior to opening day, the West Scranton Little League board volunteered their time and skills to install many updates to their complexes. They've remodled the bathrooms, installed new lights, painted building exteriors, installed murals, invested in additional field equipment, and replaced deteriorating infrastructure. In total, the board spearheaded completing 17 projects to the complex before the start of the season. Additionally, they have worked with players on baseball teams at Marywood, Clarks Summit University, and West Scranton High School to have additional volunteer support. This ensures that the youth have positive role models in their surrounding community and shows them what is possible. We are grateful for the West Scranton Little League's consistent commitment to our community. |
